The competition team program can only be beneficial to the students if each member can commit their time and energy to it. Any school activity, club or organization requires a certain amount of commitment just like the competition team does. This program also requires the parents’ time and commitment as well.
Children have many different interests. If they have several activities that they are equally talented in, eventually they will have to decide which activity they want to pursue in order to give 100% and reach their fullest potential. Discipline, dedication and determination are the focus for any activity a student wants to excel in. The competition program is for the student that has these qualities and wants to incorporate them in a performance environment.

The parent/student must fill out a competition team contract and pay competition fees before being allowed to audition. The competition fees will only be refunded if the student is not chosen as a competition team member. |

During auditions, the students will be evaluated on
- Technique
- Stage presence
- Ability to pick up choreography
- Overall performance
Understudies will also be chosen at this time.
|
Understudies top
Understudies ARE on the competition team. Understudies play a VERY important role on the team. They must know all of their teammates spots and formation changes in the event that one of their teammates can not perform. They may have to jump in at a moments notice. In this case, the understudy will not pay competition fees.

Understudies are required to attend the same classes, performances, and must follow the same attendance policy. Understudies are re-evaluated in Nov-Dec for placement in the competition team dances. If understudies are placed in the dances they will be required to pay the competition fees. The competition fees that were paid at auditions will be returned to the parent until this time. Understudies will need to purchase costumes since they WILL be performing in the competition dances at recital.

Solos, Duos & Trios top
Students MUST be a member of the competition team in order to perform a solo, duo or trio. Interested students will choreograph and perform a 30 second audition piece at team auditions. Based on studio and teacher availability, a limited number of students will be selected to perform a solo, duo or trio. These dances will be performed at all 3 competitions and at local events if time permits. Additional costs for choreography, private classes, competition fees and costumes will apply. Please see the office staff for more information.
